Pregnancy Q & A

What can I expect in pregnancy care?

Dr. Northam offers prenatal care services to ensure you deliver a healthy, happy baby. Starting with the confirmation of your pregnancy using urine or blood testing, she establishes a customized treatment plan to care for your maternal health and the development of your unborn baby throughout all nine months of your pregnancy and beyond.

After reviewing your medical history and following a physical exam, Dr. Northam provides you with an expected due date so you can start planning for your baby.

She monitors your baby’s development throughout your pregnancy. With routine visits, she monitors your baby’s development and identifies any problems early to prevent complications.

How often do I need to see the doctor?

Dr. Northam monitors your pregnancy through monthly visits from week 1 through week 28. From week 28 to week 36, you can expect to schedule visits twice a month. Once you reach week 36, you’ll visit Dr. Northam weekly until you go into labor.

If you are over the age of 35 or have medical conditions that make your pregnancy high risk, Dr. Northam schedules more frequent appointments to monitor the health of you and your baby.

As your body goes through the natural changes of pregnancy, Dr. Northam is available to discuss your questions and concerns. She also provides guidance on nutritional support, exercise, and vitamins you should take during your pregnancy to ensure a healthy delivery.

Before starting any exercise program, or taking a new medication or supplement, contact Dr. Northam to discuss safety and risks. She can provide the right guidance for your pregnancy healthcare based on your specific needs.

What happens during prenatal appointments?

At each of your appointments, Dr. Northam monitors the growth and development of your baby through physical measurements of your stomach and weight checks. Depending on the stage of pregnancy, Dr. Northam can also use ultrasounds to ensure your baby is growing properly.
